The Labour MP for the Telford constituency is due to quit his seat on Telford & Wrekin Council. This follows the news last week when The Labour Party was plunged into Civil War, with Davies clinging on to what is left of Starmer's awful government and buying himself a promotion as Assistant Government Whip.

The Conservative Group Leader Cllr Andrew Eade, said:

"I have been concerned for some time that the Labour Member of Parliament for Telford, Shaun Davies, has not been fulfilling his role as an elected Councillor and only survived disqualification by attending the bare minimum of meetings to remain in post.

"It has left the community in Malinslee & Dawley Bank without proper representation for two years and clearly could not continue without challenge which is why I intend to call for him to step down with immediate effect from Telford & Wrekin Council at Thursday evenings AGM.

"Of course any move to jump ship voluntarily will have more to do with the embarrassing potential for a sitting Labour MP to lose his council seat at next May’s local elections here in the Borough.”

A by-election will now follow in Davies' Malinslee & Dawley Bank ward on Telford & Wrekin Council. The Local Conservatives have enjoyed recent success in the Dawley area following Jack Hudson's victory at the Dawley Hamlets Parish Council by-election on 30 April. Conservative Hudson gained the seat from Labour, whilst pushing them down into third place on what they considered for a long time to be their "home turf".
